Adult/Teen Open Tap

Tap is a style of dance characterized by the sound of the metal tap striking the floor.  Tap utilizes rhythm, syncopation, and sound in addition to movement.  An emphasis is placed on musicality, expression, and improvisation.  Adult/Teen tap is offered in three levels; class placement is determined by skill level and students may repeat levels until they have achieved mastery.   Adult/Teen classes may choose to perform in the annual recital.  Registration is offered as a standard (year) offering or on a drop-in basis.

Beginner Tap

This class is a wonderful entry or reintroduction to dance for teens and adults who have little tap experience or who have not taken a tap class since their youth. Dancers will learn basic rhythmic tap skills, and terminology. Dancers will participate in warm up, center, and traveling exercises. Fundamentals such as balance and general alignment are also introduced at this level. (No prerequisite.)

Advanced Beginner Tap

This class is an extension of our tap program for those who have more extensive experience.  Complex combinations are added to the warm up and traveling exercises.  Musicality and phrasing are emphasized, as are clean sounds and proper body alignment.   Our adult/teen tappers may choose to perform in the annual recital. (Dancer should have completed Beginner Tap or have permission of the instructor to register.)

Intermediate Tap

Musicality is stressed while teaching the student to count their sounds between the beats to create more complex rhythms. More intricate variations are added at this level. As the complexity of the steps increases, it is necessary for the student to focus on body alignment to maintain balance and build strength. (Dancer should have completed Advanced Beginner Tap or have permission of the instructor to register.)

"I love the Nutcracker because it really brings us together as a studio and it is amazing to see how much each dancer progresses each year as they are given bigger roles as they grow/mature. The Nutcracker is truly a special show that will always hold a special place in my heart."
